Winding the watch
Your watch is fitted with a mechanical hand-wound movement. We recommend winding your watch at the same time everyday. If you are not wearing your watch be sure to fully wind it once a month. To wind, take the watch into your left hand, and with the dial facing you, pinch the crown between your right index finger and thumb, then rotate the crown clockwise, away from you. Wind the crown slowly and consistently as far as you can, then release and repeat. Once you feel small bit of resistance stop winding your watch. Take great care not to over wind (never force it when fully wound). To achieve full wind from empty requires approximately 30 turns of the crown in the clockwise direction. The watch is most accurate when it is fully wound.
Setting the time
Pull the crown out slowly. You will feel and hear a click. You can now set the time by rotating the crown in either direction. After you set the time, push the crown gently back in its original place.
Water Resistance
Railway Edition / Vintage Field 1st Edition Watches: Your watch is rated to 5ATM or 165 feet/50 meters. This means that the watch has rubber gaskets in the screw-in case-back and inside the crown to protect it from water. This does not mean that you can take the watch scuba diving, swimming or bathing. The watch of this level of resistance can easily withstand splashes, working around household sinks, brief immersion in water (e.g. when washing your face), or getting caught in the rain. Do not go swimming or diving with this watch. It is water resistant, not water proof. Our warranty does not cover water damage. To protect the movement from moisture, ensure that the crown is always pushed back in fully after setting the time.
Vintage Field Watch 2nd Edition: Your watch is rated to 10ATM or 330 feet/100 meters. This means that the watch has rubber gaskets in the screw-in case-back and inside the crown to protect it from water. This does not mean that you can take the watch scuba diving or swimming over extended period of tiime. The watch of this level of resistance can easily withstand splashes, working around household sinks, brief immersion in water (e.g. when washing your face), getting caught in the rain or light swimming. Do not go diving with this watch. It is water resistant, not water proof. Our warranty does not cover water damage. To protect the movement from moisture, ensure that the crown is always pushed back in fully after setting the time.
Maintenance & Care
A few items you should watch out that can cause damage to a mechanical watch are magnets, moisture, excessive heat or cold, and shock.
Don’t keep your timepiece in close proximity to electronic equipment that contains magnets like those found in speakers, televisions, x-ray equipment or your iPad. Magnetism can cause the spirals of the hairspring to 'attach' to each other, shortening it and causing the watch to run very fast. Your timepiece will become magnetized and will require the use of demagnitizer to bring it back to normal operation.
Even though your mechanical movement has anti-shock protection, it is not recommended to use your timepiece in high-impact activities, playing golf, or say splitting wood. Everyday field wear is fine, just keep in mind that you are wearing a delicate precision mechanism on your wrist.
Avoid thermal or other types of unnecessary shocks. Avoid excessive heat or excessive cold. The mechanical movement is designed to withstand temperatures between 14°F and 104°F. Outside this range of temperatures, lubricants in the movement can be damaged.
You should clean your watch from time to time. An old tooth brush and some running clean water will do the trick. Don't worry about scratching your crystal with that toothbrush. We use the best - sapphire.
